Microdermabrasion utilizes a hand-held instrument that emits very fine crystals to polish the surface of the skin. It suctions away both the upper most layer of skin and the crystals to reveal a layer of fresh invigorated skin. There is minimal discomfort and virtually no recuperation. Microdermabrasion improves dull or uneven skin color, relieves clogged pores/blackheads, refines the appearance of fine lines and large pores, and softens roughness or thickened patches of dead skin. Typically, 5 – 12 treatments are recommended to achieve maximum results. This procedure is typically performed on the face, however, it is also effective on the back and decollate to help reduce the effects of acne. Microdermabrasion is often combined with a light chemical peel to increase the effect.
